Proudly Out: Not Just Another Thanksgiving
For the last eight years, families -- all kind of families -- across the country have gathered together for food, fun, love and perhaps a little dysfunction on Thanksgiving. Political Editor Libby Post pauses to give thanks.

30 Years Later, We Can Still Learn from Milk
Thirty years after the death of Harvey Milk, Americans can still learn from his inspiring and profound work as an activist, politician and friend. With the story of his life now playing in theatres, Lane Hudson takes a look back at how Milk's legacy lives on -- and what we can to do pay tribute to the legend.

Florida's Gay Adoption Ban Ruled Unconstitutional
A Miami-Dade circuit judge decided Tuesday that a Florida man's sexual orientation should not preclude him from adopting his two foster children, effectively ruling unconstitutional a decades-old state law barring gays and lesbians from adopting children. Judge Cindy Lederman, a child welfare judge, found that the state law has 'no rational basis' and ruled that Frank Martin Gill, 47, should be entitled to adopt two young boys he has been fostering for the past four years.

Obama's LGBT Priorities
Clues are beginning to emerge as to what President Barack Obama’s priorities will be for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans during his first term. The most explicit directives came to the surface this week on the President-elect’s website within a section labeled more broadly as 'Civil Rights.'

48 Hours of Action in the Wake of Prop 8
When Californians took to the polls on Tuesday, November 4, 52.5 percent cast a vote against equal rights, saying same-sex marriage has no place in the Golden State. But in the wake of California’s LGBT population lamenting yet another blow to their rights, something magical happened. LGBT Californians stood up, brushed themselves off, and prepared for the fight of a generation.

More than the Passage of a Proposition
At 209 electoral votes, my enthusiasm was already waning. With reliable California and its 55 electoral votes soon to kick in, the living room stood with ebullience and took to their drinks of choice. Sarah Palin and Jesse Jackson were crying. Bells rang, wild mustangs neighed, willows bloomed, doves took flight… and then they looped back around towards California and shat upon us.

What Obama's Victory Means for the LGBT Community
In 1968, U Street in the northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C., was on fire and a focal point of racial tension. Forty years later it was a scene of a racially diverse celebration of Barack Obama's election as president of the United States of America. But what does this excitement mean for our country? Will it translate into anything for the LGBT community?

Gay Candidates Elected Across the U.S.
Dozens of openly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender candidates won election to public offices across the U.S. on Tuesday, according to the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund. The group, which endorsed a record-breaking 111 candidates in 2008, said more than 70 percent of its endorsed candidates had won their races by early Wednesday. Among the winners: Jared Polis of Colorado, who became the first openly gay man elected to the U.S. Congress as a non-incumbent.

For True Unity, Tolerance is Not Enough
For years, civil rights activists have espoused the murky value of 'tolerance' for LGBT individuals. They have proclaimed that the key to progress lies in a smidgen of civility within the electorate's melting pot. But that pot is still simmering with an underlying message of distaste for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. As we move forward in historic unity, I say enough with the word 'tolerance.'

‘Twas the Night of the Election
Well, it’s all over but the crying. And lord knows we’ve had enough of that this election cycle. But after Hillary’s pouting in Portsmouth, who would have ever thought we would be here today? A lot has happened in this election. But then again, a lot can happen when the election is eighteen months long.
